2009 Scholarships Programs
General Scholarship
The American Legion Department of Florida now offers a general scholarship for high school seniors. Winner receives $2,500, 2nd $1,500 and 3rd $1,000 5th - 7th places receive $500. Click here to download the scholarship application.
Deadline: March 1st of the current school year
Eagle Scout Of The Year
A scholarship for college is awarded to those chosen as Scout of the Year winners. The State winner receives $2,500, 1st runner-up $1,500 and 3rd runner-up receive $1,000 and 4th runner-up receives $500. The winner is entered into the National competition for a chance at $10,000 top scholarship or one of three $2,500 scholarships awarded to the runners-up. Click here for more information.

Boys State
One participant who must be a descendant of an American war veteran will receive a $1,000 scholarship and will be eligible for up to a $20,000 from money provided by the Samsung Corporation. Tallahassee Community College and Florida State University also offer four year (2 years at TCC and the next 2 at FSU) scholarships to the top five delegates expressing a desire to attend TCC and FSU.
Deadline: Must be selected to attend Boys State in order to apply for these scholarships.
Oratorical Contest
A $2,500 scholarship is awarded to the winner of the National High School Oratorical Contest. The Runner-up receives $1,500, 3rd place $1,000 and 4th place receives $500. The winner will receive another $1,500 if he or she competes in the first round of the National Finals. An additional $1,500 is awarded to those who compete in the second round finals, but do not advance to the final round. The top three finalist receive $18,000, $16,000 and $14,000 respectively. PATRIOTISM - devoted love, support, and defense of one's country; national loyalty; love of and devotion to one's country.

Awards
First place - $500 to the student and $500 to the school Art Department
2 Runner- ups - $250 to the student and $250 to the school Art Department

First Place – One scholarship award of $2500.00
Runner-Ups – Two scholarship awards of $1500.00 each
A candidate must be:
·  A U.S. Citizen or permanent resident
·  Entering the third year of study in a LCME-accredited Florida medical school in Fall 2010.JROTC Cadet of the Year
JROTC Cadet of the Year
The American Legion Department of Florida now offers a JROTC Cadet of the Year Scholarship for high school JROTC cadets who are in their senior year. The winner receives $2,500, 2nd $1,500, 3rd $1,000 and 4th - 5th receive $500.00.
Deadline: March 1st of the current school year
Shooting Sports
The Shooting Sports program awards a $500 scholarship to the State Winners in the Sporter and Precision Categories and also in the Team Category. An additional $500 is awarded to those who compete in the National Finals. Awards are also made at the National Finals. Click here for information.
