Stanton International Baccalaureate Admission
The IB program is a rigorous, two-year, pre-university liberal arts course of study that meets the needs of highly motivated and academically oriented 11th and 12th grade students. Designed as an interdisciplinary curriculum, the IB program allows the student to apply their theoretical knowledge to practical and experimental situations. Additionally, the IB program attempts to provide students with the academic training that will promote their intellectual and personal development. At Stanton we strive to equip students with the skills and attitudes necessary for success in higher education and employment. Stanton has one of the largest and most successful IB programs in the nation. Many IB graduates are attending highly selective universities, and students who pursue the IB diploma enjoy many educational advantages such as:

3. Preparation for problem-solving from a global perspective.
4. Recognition for admission to colleges and universities worldwide.
5. Advanced placement and course credit in many prestigious colleges and universities.

Stanton's International Baccalaureate (IB) program is one of the largest and most successful programs in the world. There are over 600 students enrolled in grades 9 through 12. We are very proud of our IB program that graduated its first diploma candidates in 1986. Since then, Stanton's IB program has evolved into one of the largest and most successful programs in the world. Our IB Class of 2008 had a 92% pass rate far exceeding the world mean.
Applying for the IB Program
Students apply for Stanton's IB program while they are in the 8th grade. At Stanton we have created a Pre-IB program for our 9th and 10th grade students to help prepare and familiarize them with the academic rigors of the IB program.
Eligibility to apply
Students enrolled in the 8th grade for the 2009-2010 school year who earned a score of 4 or higher on the 7th grade FCAT Reading and Math, or 87th percentile on an equivalent 7th grade nationally standardized exam (private schools or transfer students) are eligible to apply. In addition, students must successfully complete Algebra I while in middle school in order to enter the 9th grade program.

Procedure for Applying
Once it is verified that a student qualifies to apply they will be sent an invitation to apply. Eligible Duval County Public School students who took the 7th grade FCAT will automatically be sent a personal invitation to apply to the IB program. Private school or transfer students must submit 7th grade standardized test scores to the IB Coordinator at the address listed below to receive the invitation.
Formal information sessions will take place in November for eligible students and families to attend. At this time students will learn about the program and will be given application information. Students must formally apply by the deadline to be considered for admission to the IB program at Stanton. Admission is very competitive and the number of students admitted to the ninth grade class will be limited. Students will be selected based on test scores, grades, and a personal statement.
